The following NIT/REC Calicut Alumni are the present Working Committee and founder members of TIPS. They bring together a wide range of experience in different fields to provide initial guidance in its formative years. More alumni and other interested persons will be involved in TIPS programs in a progressive manner.
John Mathai. IAS (Retd) has extensive administrative
experience in the industry development sector and was the Principal Secretary, Industry, of The Government of Kerala. He retired as Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala. He has served as the Chairman of various Companies like Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd, Travancore Titanium Products Ltd, Malabar Cements Ltd, Kerala Electrical and
Allied Industries Ltd, Traco Cables Ltd etc. He has served in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas , Government of India as Director. After retirement as Chief Secretary of Government of Kerala, he was the Chairman of State Public Sector Restructuring and Audit Board of Government of Kerala till recently. He holds a Diploma in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge, UK. The development and management of programs at TIPS in coordination with other organisations will be guided by his extensive experience.
Prof. K.J.Paulose has a PGDBM from IIM Calcutta, at present
is the Dean and Head of Department of the Department of Management Studies at the School of Communication and Management Studies at Kochi. Before starting on the academic career, he has worked for nearly two decades in industry, engaged in manufacturing and marketing of heavy equipment. He has also carried out management consultancy assignments for private and public sector covering,
operations, marketing and pricing functions. As a member of the Society of Entrepreneurship Educators, he has been engaged in innovation promotion functions for several years. TIPS will be guided by his experience and initiatives, as its Program Director.
P. Sankaran at present is the Senior Executive VP of
Reliance Industries Ltd., with focus on energy sector project implementation. He was chief engineer at Shipping Corporation of India in the 80’s. He had been responsible for several new technology implementations in the petroleum sector handling refrigerated cryogenic Ethylene in bulk. He had implemented the biggest Petroleum
handling Port in Jamnagar, India handling about 100 million Tonnes/annum. He brings together significant project management and technology assessment skills to TIPS along with wide industry contacts to synergise academic and industry innovation initiatives.
Jayaprakashan Ambali is a post graduate of the Asian
Institute of Technology, Bangkok in Industrial Engineering and is at present Principal Engineer, Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority. He has carried out innovation implementation studies for the World Bank under Robert S McNamara fellowship. He was also involved in energy sector policy development under UN-ESCAP. He has extensive
experience in aircraft engine design, manufacture and operation gained from HAL, Engine Design Bureau and Ansett Airlines of Australia. He brings together product design and innovation implementation skills to TIPS, as its Vice President.
K.C.Ramachandran is a Graduate in Civil Engineering.
He has about Forty years of experiences in Civil Engineering:Construction, Project / Contract Management and Building Maintenance. He spent most of his professional life in the Gulf Countries and is conversant with latest Construction and, Maintenance Techniques. He brings to TIPS an understanding
in Civil Engineering Design, Construction, Maintenance along with Management. He is the Treasurer of TIPS.
M.K.Krishnan at present is the Director of IMF
Foundry Equipment India Pvt Ltd. Earlier he has worked in the marketing and general management areas of several engineering companies including Disa India Limited. His background and experience will be a tremendous asset in creating a business and marketing plan for any of the innovators that TIPS may assist. He is teh Secretary of TIPS.
P.K.Ravindran is a post graduate of the Indian
Institute of Science, Bangalore in Aeronautics and is at present the Group Director of flight testing at the Aeronautical Development Agency. Earlier he was a Wing Commander at the Indian air Force. His experience in engineering assessment and testing of complex aircraft systems,
telemetry equipment and instrumentation along with trouble shooting skills can be incorporated into any guidance that TIPS may provide for innovative projects. He is the President of TIPS.
Sunil Kumar has over twenty five years of experience in
conceptualizing, designing and developing of interactive science centre exhibits. Played a role in development of new science centres in different parts of India. Projects independently managed include recently completed Dharwad Regional Science Centre, which was developed over an area of 12 acre land inside the Dharwad
University Campus.As a creative and innovative Engineer, Sunil Kumar was instrumental in developing animatronic dinosaurs and giant insects for museums. Created a full size authentic replica of ’1903 Wright Flyer’ for display in Bangalore. Played a lead role in developing several exhibitions in Science and Technology including a traveling exhibition on Nano technology. Worked on different multi-disciplinary concepts and developed several fascinating inter-actives for science museums. Was largely instrumental in transforming the Visvesvaraya Museum, Bangalore to the present level, by developing world class exhibits.Sunil’s major strengths are in creating inter-active learning environment by transforming concepts into hands-on and minds-on exhibits. Very good at creating mechanical analogies to enhance cognitive learning. He is a Program Director of TIPS.
M.K. Pavithran has extensive experience in the
equipment selection and project management of fluid handling systems and was the project engineer for KSB Fluid Systems in Germany, involved in major international projects. He was also involved in environmental control equipment design, fabrication and installation at Flakt India, Sriram EPC, and Batliboi Environmental
Engineering etc. Noting that the environmental engineering is likely to become a major aspect of industry and infrastructure projects in India, his expertise in this field will be a major asset to TIPS, as its Program Director.
M.C.Thomas is the electrical engineering specialist
among the founding members with extensive experience in process automation. He has worked for AEG-NGEF on industrial process automation and drive systems. Subsequently he has headed the process automation group of ABB Ltd dealing with major project design
and implementation. His extensive experience in the electrical engineering speciality can guide innovation projects that TIPS may undertake in this area.
Shilen Sagunan moved from Arbitron Inc., Columbia,
USA. to Cochin to set up Arbitron India, engaged in Engineering R&D, Software Application Development and Business Analytics where he is the MD . He holds M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Bombay, after which he worked at The Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, and was involved in the development of propulsion systems. His experience
covers the wide spectrum, from “aerospace engineering to software development, all enriched with entrepreneurship and management skills, a much needed asset for all of TIPS activities”.
K.T. Ramachandran has moved from engineering to
banking and now he is in the import-export business of home furnishings, and operates three stores in Bangalore. He worked for two decades at the Bank of India, was posted in Hong Kong, which fired his business spirits to make a sea change and to enter into international trade area. Success of an innovation is decided in the market place,
and a good guiding hand in trade can always help any innovator.
Rajeev Mukundan brings in the Information Technology
(IT) expertise to TIPS. He is a senior management professional at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), based at present in Kochi. He is a mechanical engineering graduate, 1997 from IIT Madras and MBA from IIM Bangalore. He is also a doctoral student in the area of innovations in the IT sector. Prior to joining TCS, he has worked with
Wipro and other banking and insurance companies. With his experience in IT combined with innovation research background is ideal to address a significant emerging frontier in the Indian industry.
C.V.Venugopalan has a Masters Degree in
Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has extensive experience in aircraft design and testing in a long career with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited ranging from Design Trainee to Chief Designer and head of Ground Test Centre. At present he is a consulting engineer with QuEST Global, premier aircraft
design facility with worldwide clientele. The vast design and testing experience is a highly valuable asset for TIPS as it ventures into prototype development support domain.
Prof.(Dr.) K.A.Abu Baker brings to TIPS three decades of
public works sector experience combined with significant entrepreneurial acumen. He was Private Secretary to the Minister of Works,Kerala and is at present Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Jai Bharat College of Engineering, Kochi, apart
from being involved with Baker Associates and Consultants
in the design and construction of several significant buildings across India.
Sijo Kuruvilla George is the CEO of Start-up Village in Kochi,
India’s first Public-Private partnership model of Technology Business Incubator.The private sector partner of this village is MobME, an ICT company established by Sijo and his friends. Sijo has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and an MBA in marketing. He has worked as consultant for PWC and Deloitte, has been with Infosys and British Oxygen.
He is an entrepreneurial evangelist, ready to mentor and assist young talent in digital media, web and mobile space.
Prof. Dr. V. Job Kuruvilla brings to TIPS extensive experience
in promoting creativity and innovation with particular focus on students as evidenced by two books he has published on this topic. At present he is the Director of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, Kochi. Job Kuruvilla moved into the teaching career after several decades in the industry which helps him to bring a more practical approach to teaching, the essential element for innovation.
TIPS with its focus on training and education will be greatly benefited by his experience.
P. Suresh Kumar comes to TIPS with close to 30 years of industry experience.That includes ,leadership and executive roles in Hewlett Packard as Director of R&D,
Engineering, Operational Excellence, and Business development. He has extensive experience in developing& maturing Technology R&D organizations. Prior to HP, Suresh was with the Defence R&D as a Scientist and led development of communication and data networking products. He had also held senior positions at Tata Elxsi and HAL.

After 26 years of his corporate career, he founded a venture to help SME companies on technology and business growth and presently is the CEO of Graceful Growth Consulting Pvt Ltd., He is also a sought after coach for business owners and executives enabling breakthrough execution excellence and business growth for their ventures.Apart from his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from NIT Calicut,Suresh holds a Masters  in Computer Science & Engineering from IIT Bombay. He is also a graduate of “The General Manger Program”, from Harvard Business School.
